Swamp creek reserve

Updated: Jun 30, 2020

Access: Dirt road two wheel drive

Facilities: Pit Toilets

location: River Rd, North of Nundle

Price: Free

Closest town: This is only 5km north of the township Nundle. This town has a pub (with very yummy meals) and a small general store available, the store sells a small selection of groceries. The town does have one small fuel station. 55km away is Tamworth, a much larger town where you can find multiple fuel stations, supermarkets, hardware stores, post office and general shopping.

Things to do: The campsite is split into two areas, one on either side of a small bridge over Burrows creek. The main attraction in the area is fossicking, and you will be likely to find something in Burrows creek (we did!). You can hire pans in the town of Nundle, and instructions if you are new to this hobby. If you are an avid fossicker there are many more locations in the area. Head into the town information centre, they are extremely helpful and will provide maps of the area you can fossick and explore. The town of Nundle is a historic Gold mining village, and has provides plenty to explore. The old wool shed has free tours, and you can see antique wool machines, and they have a gift shop. The town also has a large antique shop, boutique shops and a few cafes to enjoy.

Other things to note: There is not potable water at this location so you will need to bring it with you. There are some built in fire places, but you will need to bring your own wood as there was not much in the area. The creek is beautiful but not deep enough for swimming, but very refreshing to put your feet and legs in. Either side of the reserve is a rest area only, so do not camp outside of the fence.

We really love this campsite, and after trying gold panning here for the first time it is now a very loved hobby of ours.
